WORSHIP PASTOR

 WHO WE'RE PRAYING FOR

We are praying for a Worship Pastor who loves God's people and knows how to lead them somewhere. We are praying for someone who understands that Sunday morning is the culmination of something, not the whole thing, and that the goal of every service is a congregation worshiping God in spirit and in truth.

We believe every person in that room is there to worship, and the Worship Pastor's job is to make that possible. That means song selection matters. How you address the room matters. The decisions you make in the weeks before Sunday matter just as much as Sunday itself.

We are seeking someone who sees the worship team as people to shepherd, not just musicians to manage. The best moments in this role will not happen on Sundays. They will be the conversations before and after rehearsal, the check-in with the vocalist going through something hard, or the team member celebrating a big life moment. If that kind of investment sounds like ministry to you, you will love this team.

The Gathering is a unique church with a focused staff team, a clear mission, a strong foundation, and a bright future.

We trust that God is preparing the right leader to guide us forward as we continue connecting more people to Jesus.

ABOUT THE GATHERING

The Gathering is a Christ-centered, non-denominational church in Centerville, Ohio. Our mission is simple: connect more people to Jesus. We are a comfortable, inviting community where people can come as they are, build meaningful relationships, and take their next steps in faith.

Beliefs and Values

At The Gathering, we are anchored in the authority of God's Word and the central message of the gospel. Our church includes people from a wide variety of backgrounds, while holding firmly to historic Christian truth.

We value grace, authenticity, and connection and we emphasize five core beliefs around which we unite:

  1. God loves the world.

  2. We trust the Bible.

  3. Nobody is perfect.

  4. Only Jesus saves us.

  5. We love everyone.

Worship and Ministry Life

Our Sunday gatherings are the heartbeat of The Gathering. We currently hold two worship services each week, with a combined average attendance of about 850. Each service lasts about 70 minutes and features modern worship and biblical teaching with real-life application. We offer Gathering Kids programming for newborns through 5th grade and Student Ministry for 6th through 12th grade.

Our primary discipleship vehicle is small groups, where people build relationships, grow in faith, and live on mission together. We also partner with several local missions to demonstrate Jesus' love throughout the greater Dayton area.

History

The Gathering is a 20-year-old church with a strong track record and only three lead pastors in its history. From the start, we've been fueled by a passion to extend and celebrate God's grace and a steadfast commitment to Scripture. After beginning as a mobile church, The Gathering put down roots on Yankee Street in 2012, now a recently expanded and updated facility that reflects the growth and energy of our church family.

Since 2020, The Gathering has experienced a season of rapid yet steady growth, with worship attendance more than doubling in just a few years. In the past two years alone, we've celebrated nearly 100 baptisms each year, reflecting the spiritual momentum and life change happening within our church family.

Leadership

The Gathering is staff-led and board-protected. Our team of 15 full- and part-time staff works collaboratively to lead ministry, empower volunteers, and shepherd the congregation. Pastor Adam Eaton serves as Lead Pastor and provides direct partnership with the Worship Pastor on service planning, creative direction, and the overall worship environment.

Culture and Community

We are a multi-generational church of over 1,000 people, large enough for vibrant ministry, yet still marked by the relational warmth of a smaller church. Our church family is diverse generationally, economically, politically, and ethnically. Visitors often remark on the sense of connection that fills our building on Sunday mornings.

The Gathering is located in Centerville, Ohio, a growing suburb just south of Dayton. Our community is known for strong schools, thriving family life, and a mix of young professionals and long-term residents. We are centrally positioned within five miles of several large school districts (Centerville, Springboro, Miamisburg, and Kettering) and our congregation draws people from a wide range of surrounding cities.

Facilities

We gather in a recently expanded and renovated building featuring a modern worship center and updated kids and youth spaces. The Lobby is the heart of our community, where connection happens most.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Our previous Worship Pastor answered a call to serve another church after seven years with us. We are grateful for what he built here, and we are praying for the right person to step into what comes next.

The Gathering is looking for a full-time Worship Pastor whose two primary responsibilities are leading our congregation in weekly worship and discipling the team that makes it possible. If someone also brings production and tech experience, that is a genuine bonus -- but it is not the first thing we are looking for.

Our worship band is well-established with keys, drums, bass, and guitars already in place. We are not looking for someone to fill a vacant instrument chair. We need a strong vocal leader who can shepherd the team, lead the room, and carry the weight of the role pastorally and creatively.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Worship Leadership

  • Plan and lead Sunday morning worship services

  • Select and arrange music that is biblically grounded and genuinely singable by the whole congregation, not just the team on stage

  • Collaborate with the Lead Pastor on the preaching calendar to ensure worship and teaching move in the same direction

  • Maintain a worship culture that prioritizes participation over performance

Team Leadership

  • Recruit, schedule, and develop worship musicians, vocalists, and production volunteers

  • Disciple the worship team, treating spiritual formation as equal in importance to musical excellence

  • Build a team that shows up prepared, tells the truth, and serves people

  • Give honest feedback and receive it well

Production and Tech (Optional but preferred)

  • Own the production and tech environment: audio, video, livestream, lighting, and ProPresenter (or equivalent)

  • Lead and develop the volunteer production team

  • Ensure the technical side of Sunday services runs at a level that serves the congregation, not distracts from it

Staff Collaboration

  • Function as an active member of the pastoral staff team, not just a Sunday presence

  • Contribute to planning meetings, seasonal vision, and the overall health of the team

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Non-negotiables

  • Genuine, mature Christian faith with a life that reflects it

  • Theological alignment with our statement of faith

  • Experience leading worship in a church setting

  • Strong vocal leadership ability

  • Ability to lead and develop volunteers, not just coordinate them

  • Coachability: you receive feedback, adjust, and make things better

Strong preference for

  • Prior experience as a church staff member (not just a worship leader or production volunteer)

  • Experience managing a band and creative team week to week

  • Familiarity with Planning Center or equivalent planning software

  • Hands-on competence with production and tech systems

YOU'LL SUCCEED IN THIS ROLE...

We believe worship is for the congregation first, not the platform. We are not chasing a sound or a vibe. We are building a room full of people who are leaning in to sing what they believe. If that distinction matters to you, this is the right place.

Do you love developing people as much as leading them? Our worship team is full of people who care and want to grow. You won't start from scratch. You will be asked to take what is already good and make it excellent by investing in the people who show up every week to serve.

The Gathering is a team that works together, pushes each other, and takes the mission seriously across the full week, not just on Sundays.
